Marbled Pig Cake
An easy but impressive decorated cake, very cute and with an extra marbled surprise inside.
Ingredients
- 175g Butter, softened (plus a little extra for greasing)
- 100g Plain flour
- 100g Self raising flour
- 1/2 tsp Baking powder
- 175g Caster sugar
- 1 tsp Silver Spoon Cakecraft Natural Vanilla Extract
- 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp Red food colour
- 1/2 tsp Silver Spoon Cakecraft Natural Strawberry Flavouring
- 2 tsp Smooth strawberry jam
- 1kg Silver Spoon Cakecraft White Ready To Roll Icing
- A few Silver Spoon Cakecraft Coloured Choco Beans
Method
Oven and Baking Tray
Preheat the oven to 180°C, Fan oven 160°C /gas 4.
Butter and flour the sides of four 10 cm heart shaped tins and line the bases with greaseproof paper.
Cake Mix
Melt the dark chocolate cake covering and then set aside to cool slightly.
Beat the butter until very soft then add the caster sugar and continue to beat until the mixture is pale and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and then fold in the melted chocolate.
Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and the bicarbonate of soda, and fold in gently to mix.
Bake & Cool
Divide the mixture between the tins and bake in the oven for 25 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the middle of each cake comes out clean.
Remove the cakes from the oven and allow to sit for five minutes before turning them out of their tins and placing them on a wire rack to cool. When cool slice the cake in half.
Chocolate Butter Cream
Melt the white chocolate in the microwave on High for 1½ minute, stirring halfway. Leave to cool.
Beat the butter and icing sugar in a large bowl until creamy.
Beat in the white chocolate until smooth. Spread the butter icing on the bottom half of the cake and sandwich with the other half.
Decorate
Sift the Fondant icing sugar into a small bowl, add just enough boiling water to give a smooth, thickish icing. Add pink food colour and beat to give an even colour. Spoon the icing over the cooled cakes so that the icing is oozing just over the edges. To get this effect always add the icing to the middle of the cake so it pushes the icing over the edge. Decorate with choco beans and sprinkles before the icing sets.
Another idea is to pipe an edging of pink icing using the designer pink icing and then adding the pink fondant icing in the middle.
